Drinking bottled water should be made as unfashionable as smoking, according to a government adviser.
"We have to make people think that it's unfashionable just as we have with smoking. We need a similar campaign to convince people that this is wrong," said Tim Lang, the Government's naural resources commissioner.
Phil Woolas, the environment minister, added that the amount of money spent on mineral water "borders on being morally unacceptable".

Bet it doesn't generate as much CO2 as Government ministers travelling the globe on junkets.

i totally agree with the article. bottled water was made popular by water companies to make even more money. in fact, some studies have shown that tap water in certain communities is cleaner than bottled water.
personally, i think bottled water is one of the biggest publicity/marketing scam in recent years. Like they point out in the article, it is much like the 'cigarettes are cool' campaign of the 50's by billionaire tobacco companies.
good seed DJD. Yeah, the government traveling is another issue altogether, but i think that 'bottled water' is not as productive as our minister's traveling. at least they are, supposedly, doing work when they travel around. Maybe the problem that bother me more is the work that they do on those trips though. are they really working for our best interests? Ha ha. Another issue again. cheers

To some extent the water in bottles tastes good because it's cold. If you put tap water in a mineral water bottle and put it in the fridge for a while then you can't tell the difference.
Evian spelt backwards is revealing.

yeah that's exactly what I do actually. I put my tap water in the fridge and i am never able to see the difference. i like the "naive" comment. I've never noticed it! Ha ha. wonder if they choose it on purpose!
