Saturday evening saw Inter travelling to the Stadio Granillo to take on Reggina. Adriano scored his first of the season on a heavy pitch in driving rain.
The goal came against the run of play in the 18th minute from a Figo free kick that Adriano flicked into the net with a glancing header on the far post. It turned out to be the only goal and gave Inter the three points that keep them clear of the pack at the top of Serie A.
The other Saturday game saw Napoli travel to Roma for what turned out to be an amazing game. There is an intense rivalry between these supporters and the atmosphere was always electric. In this their first meeting in seven years, only Roma season ticket holders were allowed in to the ground. Roma were casual at the start of this game and conceded a goal after just two minutes with Zalayeta passing to the Argentine Lavezzi who slammed home a powerful right foot shot. On the half hour, Roma's Pizarro was brought down by Cannavaro's clumsy tackle and Totti stepped up to equalize from the spot. Just before the break, a Totti shot was cleared by Iezzo as far as Perrotta who put the ball away.
Roma were slack again after the break and Hamsik equalized for Napoli after just half a minute. De Rossi made it 3-2 in the 52nd minute with a 25 yard shot that looked like it had been fired out of a gun. Gargano fired home a shot from a similar distance to bring the scores level and Pizarro made it 4-3 to Roma with a free kick from the edge of the area. Just when Roma looked like they'd win, Napoli came back with Zalayeta heading home from a corner. What a shame that this exciting 4-4 game could only be seen by a limited crowd.
Del Piero has signed a new contract with Juve and he won them the game against Genoa Sunday evening. The goal came in the 36th minute and was a great way to celebrate his new contract. The win leaves Juve in second place, three points behind Inter.
In third place, one point ahead of Roma are Fiorentina who had an impressive 3-0 win over Siena this afternoon. Goals came from Pazzini in the fifteenth minute, Mutu in the 31st, and Vieri after 71. Fiorentina coach Cesare Prandelli said after the game: "We got off to a good start, kept the team tight and avoided long balls. Giampaolo Pazzini plays with great determination and gave the side depth. Are we in the title race? We just want to keep up this kind of performance."
