In a tight game in which three shots from Alessandro Del Piero found the woodwork, rather than the net, it was a goal by Antonio Di Natale that presented Udinese with a surprise win in Turin this afternoon.
Di Natale, who scored two in Kiev last week for Italy's crucial 2-1 victory over Ukraine, was on target again today just after the break. Ilner's chip found Di Natale unmarked and seven yards from goal and he had no trouble heading home. It was a goal that would have been disallowed were it not for the new offside rule.
Poor Juventus did everything right apart from score with Nedved and Del Piero both looking dangerous in attack. Juve's defence however has been a bit lacklustre and were certainly at fault in conceding the goal. Juventus did put the ball away in injury time with an Iaquinta header that was disallowed for a Del Piero push on Coda.
Meanwhile undefeated Roma visited the Stadio Granillo to take on Reggina, and came away with three points, thanks to a fine couple of goals in the second half. Brazilian Juan made his Serie A debut for Roma and scored the first after 50 minutes, putting home a free kick that had been played across the area. Il Capitano, Totti sealed the three points with a low drive in the 84th minute from nine yards out.
Napoli made it two straight wins with a 2-0 scoreline over Sampdoria. Zalayeta getting the first just before the break and Hamsik scoring the second after seventy-six minutes. So the table after three games has Roma, with three straight wins on top with nine points. Inter move into second after a 2-0 win over Catania, and Napoli and Juve are just behind them on six.
