Crowds thronged into Modena cathedral Friday to say their farewells to Italy's great tenor Luciano Pavarotti.
The imposing, black-bearded figure was laid out in an open white casket in black coat and tails, holding his signature white handkerchief, his fingers entwined with rosary beads.
Among the floral tributes was a little posy of pink roses from the tenor's four-year-old daughter Alice, framing a drawing she did for her Dad and her name in shaky capital letters. Local people who used to chat with the gregarious tenor joined with foreign fans who rushed to Italy as soon as they heard the news of his death from cancer early Thursday at the age of 71.
I'd like to raise your awareness about this fact,
months ago the italian catholic church refused religious funerals to Piergiorgio Welby since he pretended to interrupt the painful and useless therapies mantaining him in a constantly-suffering parody of life.
Now it allowed use of Modena's cathedral to hose pavarotti's funerals, despite him being divorced, remarried and blatantly unfaithful (he reffered to his second wife as: "my harem's favourite"),
it seems that the church's iron-hard rules are effective only for poor people while the rich and famous can still buy indulgences,
Paolo.
Thank you for the link Paolo, what an interesting man Welby was.
